Start Date: End August 2025 Part 1 and End Jan/Start Feb 2026 Part 2
About the Role:
16 Degrees South in partnership with The Clipper Round the World Race , is seeking a passionate Onboard Reporter (OBR) to document one of the world’s most challenging and exhilarating round the world sailing events. As an OBR, you will live and work alongside the crew on board one of the race yachts for up to 4 weeks at sea at a time as they race 40 000 miles around the world over 11 months. In your role you will be capturing the essence of ocean racing through photography, videography, and storytelling. Your content will be used to engage global audiences across digital and traditional media platforms.
Key Responsibilities:
Capture high-quality photo and video content that showcases the challenges, triumphs, and daily life onboard.
Write compelling short reports, blogs, and social media updates.
Conduct and record interviews with crew members to share their stories.
Edit and submit content remotely while at sea, adhering to Clipper Race deadlines and technical requirements.
Work within the constraints of onboard equipment and limited connectivity to deliver engaging content.
Collaborate with the race’s media team and 16 Degrees South to ensure consistent storytelling and brand messaging.
to support the land team during stopovers to help ensure smooth coordination and coverage
Requirements:
Proven experience in photojournalism, videography, or digital content creation, preferably in extreme or adventure sports.
Strong storytelling ability with writing and editing skills.
Sailing experience is ideal but not necessary or the ability to adapt to extreme ocean conditions.
Proficiency with professional cameras and video editing software.
Strong self-sufficiency, resilience, and ability to work in challenging environments.
Your own camera equipment, i.e. Sony A7S plus lens, laptop with software, etc.
Ability to work to deadlines and deliver content in real time when possible.
Desirable:
Experience working on long-duration expeditions or embedded journalism roles.
Knowledge of sailing and offshore racing terminology.
Previous experience in film making.
Drone experience.
